Elliott has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys, pending a physical, according to an NFL Media report.

His production was down last year in New England, rushing for 642 yards, but he did prove to be effective in short-yardage and goal-line situations − areas where the Cowboys struggled last season.

He joins a backfield that lost former starter Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans in free agency this offseason. The Cowboys currently have veterans Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman on the roster. They opted not to select any running backs in the just-completed NFL draft, which may have helped open the door for a reunion with Elliott.
